DSL Connection Speed is generally advertised in kilobits per second, naming both the
download speed and upload speed. (example DSL 640/256)
Typically, the TCP/IP protocol has overhead transmission loss of around 3%, ATM overhead is around 10%. As a general rule, you can expect to lose 13% of the stated DSL speed. In addition, speed loss can occur at various points in your computer and/or networking equipment (ethernet adapters, USB ports, hubs, switches, routers). The speed stated above in kilobits (red number) is reflective of your actual throughput to the WVI network inclusive of protocol overheads, transmission overheads, and other points of speed loss specific to your computer equipment. |
